About the Role:
The Personal Injury Attorney is responsible for providing injured claimants with the legal advice, guidance and representation required to successfully win compensation. The attorney will be responsible for handling the case from filing the lawsuit to preparing the matter for trial and all litigation activities in between, with the opportunity for trial experience. The goal of a personal injury lawsuit is for the claimant to receive monetary compensation for medical expenses, physical suffering, emotional distress, and income lost through inability to work.
What you’ll do:
Core duties and responsibilities include the following.
Manage the Litigation Department, which includes supervising associates, paralegals and legal assistants to ensure they perform their responsibilities, and providing training and guidance to the team, and providing updates on new strategies and relevant new case law
Prepare and formulate strategy for cases entering into litigation, including discovery plan, goals for settlement and expert work up for trial
Prepare pleadings, discovery, law and motions, demand/mediation packages, negotiate settlements informally or at mediation/ADR, hire expert witnesses and perform other trial preparation
Provide liability analyses, treatment recommendations, and general case handling guidance on matters in pre-litigation to case file managers
Other responsibilities may be added by management
Our Perfect Candidate
Education and Experience:
Juris Degree required
Must be in good standing with the California Bar Association
Should be well-versed in Personal Injury litigation and a thorough knowledge of the California Discovery Act, including all aspects of discovery and law and motion is required
At least 5+ years of experience that can guide to some Junior Attorneys, demand writer and support staff of Personal Injury and Litigation Departments.
Working knowledge of Personal Injury laws and procedures
Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Able to function with a high level of patience, tact, and diplomacy in handling negative or challenging situations
Familiar with case management software, Microsoft Word Suite, Adobe Pro, and other legal technology
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications i.e., Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
Required Abilities and Skills:
Capable of efficiently leading and managing a team
Exceptional leadership skills including coaching, motivating, and empowering team members
Ability to foster change, spark innovation and implement strategies
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and solve practical problems
Expertise in analysis, critical decision making, and process improvement
Flexibility to lead in a changing environment
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Capable of managing the “big picture” while paying attention to detail
