Staff Accountant

The Bank of East Asia, Limited, New York Branch is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to join its commercial real estate team in New York, NY.

About the role:

Responsible for daily accounting operations, bank reconciliations, accounts payable and general ledger journal entries postings.  

What you’ll do:
  • Daily Federal Reserve Bank and corresponding bank reconciliations, and general ledger accounts reconciliations.
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly regulatory reporting to the Federal Reserve Bank.
  • Process invoices to the Accounts Payable system and maintain the Fixed Assets system.
  • Prepare and post general ledger entries.
  • Monitor and report CED & FDIC Pledged Assets to Treasury Department.
  • Maintain daily general ledger and investigate any balances in the suspense accounts.
  • Prepare and submit various reports to Head Office.
  • Prepare and file the NYS Sales Tax and NYC Commercial Rent Tax Returns.
  • Assist on annual budget, forecast, and variance analysis.
  • Assist on various Head Office and local projects.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as required.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or other related disciplines.
  • At least one to two years of financial/banking services industry experience.
Skills and abilities:
  • Understands generally accepted accounting principles (“GAAP”) and also International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”). 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint, etc. 
  • Very strong quantitative and analytical skills, comfortable working with large data files.
  • Must be highly organized and possess strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and communicate effectively.
