Litigation Paralegal 

Patterson, Buchanan, Fobes & Leitch Inc is currently seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join their team in Seattle, WA 98104

About the role:

The role of the Litigation Paralegal is to assist attorneys in a broad range of substantive case management legal work. The Litigation Paralegal works in a team environment which may include one or more attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants. Responsibilities will vary depending on the case and the attorney(s), but generally include commencement of action activities, discovery document management, and trial/post-trial support. Job performance success is measured primarily by the following metrics: The consistent production of billable hours, the consistent production of accurate and timely documents with minimal supervision; promptness of turnaround time; knowledge of court rules and success at applying that knowledge in the routine delivery of work product; and a work ethic that demonstrates commitment to the Firm.

What you'll do:

1. Commencement of Action
a. Attend client meetings
b. Draft standard summons and complaints
c. Draft standard answers or other responsive pleadings
d. Participate in fact investigation (witness interviews, site inspections, material evidence)
e. Draft correspondence and other memorandum
f. Maintain calendars

2. Discovery Case Management
a. Draft or finalize discovery responses (interrogatories, discovery requests and answers, motions, and stipulations)
b. Assist with witness interviews and write memoranda summarizing statements and findings.
c. Prepare/finalize schedule and serve deposition notices and subpoenas
d. Assist with the preparation of witnesses, clients, and documents for depositions
e. Review, organize and index documents produced
f. Track discovery responses and status.
g. Schedule appointments
h. Schedule expert witnesses
i. Schedule mediations
j. Maintain client files/organize cases/keep track of deadlines

3. Trial/Post-Trial Support
a. Prepare and serve trial subpoenas
b. Prepare and organize trial exhibits
c. Set up trial office and handle court logistics (equipment procurement, delivery and/or return of trial documents, etc.)
d. Prepare trial notebooks
e. Prepare and coordinate witnesses
f. Attend trial to take notes and handle exhibits

Our Ideal candidate:

Education and experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred 
  • Paralegal Certificate is preferred 
  • Equivalent experience may be considered as a substitute for paralegal certification.
  • Minimum 3 years general litigation experience and previous trial experience mandatory.
Skills and abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of state and federal court rules including procedures for filing
  • Proficiency with case and document management, especially the discovery process
  • Proven ability to gather, organize and manage large amounts of data. Strong written communication skills including command of grammar
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.   
  • Proficiency with MS Office & document management software, preferably ProLaw, Summation and Trial Director.
  • Requires ability and willingness to travel.
